Skip-Shift Saturdays: “My Ultimate Dream Car.” Written by Paolo Manalo

First of all, I just wanna say that I’m sorry for not writing any articles on Wednesday and Friday for I was away on a school retreat. Anyways, let’s get back to cars. This week on the occasional iteration of Skip-Shift Saturdays, I talk about a car that has always been at the top of my Dream Car List, and it’s not the BMW E39 ///M5 as people might think.

Dream Car. What would be the most basic definition of a “Dream Car”? Mine’s a two part definition:

A car that’s so impractical, irrational and outrageous

Something that you will choose over your girlfriend/wife

Something that WILL make life worth living (if you’re a car guy)

As I was thinking of this, many cars came up from my childhood like the Jaguar XJ220, Lamborghini Diablo-SV and the McLaren F1. Those are good choices to go with but they don’t personally stick with me as well as one car, a car that has emotionally scarred me for the rest of my life and a car that it totally contrary to my “European Only” taste buds.

The 67’ Shelby GT500. Not just any GT500, it’s Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds with Nicolas Cage. That car to me can be described in two words: Pure Sex. It’s the pinnacle of Bad-Ass cars, cars that will make you shit your pants even though you have driven it like 30 times. On the other hand, it represents what American Muscle is all about:

Being Bad-Ass

Having a humongous/deafening motor in the front (V8 of course)

Provides brute power

Totally gas-guzzling (Fuck Prius’)

A Wooden Steering-Wheel

I’m sure that there are many more characteristics that go along with American Muscle, but these are the ones that I think represent what being Bad-Ass is all about. With these cars, you wouldn’t really care about emission standards, getting the most fuel savings per mile or getting a huge load of groceries (save it for the RS4 Avant). With this, all you will care about is cruising in style from Point A to B and listening to the symphony of that American Cobra Jet engine. I can just imagine myself holding that wooden steering-wheel while wearing brown leather driving-gloves like Ryan Gosling from Drive.

By the time I get money, I don’t really know if I should buy a GT500 in mint condition or do some sort of barn find and restore it. My thinking is that a barn find would be more cost effective. Regardless, building something like this from the ground up (and to my specifications) would be a dream come true. From the every nut and bolt, bare frame, to re-assembling a Cobra Jet engine to perfection would definitely make my life complete. Time to get a job at a garage first, than I can start talking shit.

Police perform house-to-house, unconstitutional raids in Watertown MA ripping innocent people out of their homes, pointing guns at them, and destroying their 4th Amendment rights.

It’s sad because some idiot will justify it as: “There was a terrorist on the loose and we had to find him”, which is not a sufficient reason to subject everyone to (even temporary) tyranny.

That’s the difference between the North and the South, though. If they tried that shit here in Texas, I suspect there would be stacks of dead citizens and dead cops from the shootouts en masse between gun owners and police on almost every street.

Massachusetts state motto:

“Ense petit placidam sub libertate quietem”

which translates into:

“By the sword we seek peace, but peace only under liberty.”

So much for liberty, huh? Looks like the government agents holding all the swords don’t much care for the liberties of their citizens. At this point, who is surprised? Citizens of Massachusetts may seek peace, but in this case, peace was to the detriment of their own liberty. Those who put up with it deserve neither.

The world would be cooler, if not better, place with large animal-like mechas in it. Robert put some insanely meticulous detail into these mobile combat companions, from Barn Owl Recon Units to Kingfisher Snipers, even explaining the mechanical nuances that allow them to move like their counterparts in the nature. You may not be able to “get in the fucking robot”, but when you’ve got a bigass canon, who’s gonna say you can’t ride your combat-ready Grizzly-Mech into battle with the rest of the Robot Bear Cavalry.

Leaked Report: Nearly Half of US Drone Strikes in Pakistan Not Against al-Qaeda

A trove of leaked classified reports has confirmed what many had suspected – US drone kills in Pakistan are not the precision strikes against top-level al-Qaeda terrorists they are portrayed as by the Obama administration.

Instead, many of the attacks are aimed at suspected low-level tribal militants, who may pose no direct danger to the United States – and for many there appears to be little evidence to justify the assassinations.

Top secret documents obtained by McClatchy newspapers in the US show the locations, identities and numbers of those attacked and killed in Pakistan in 2006-8 and 2010-11, as well as explanations for why the targets were picked.

The statistics illustrate the breadth of the US ‘drone doctrine’ – which has never been defined by consecutive US administrations. Between 1,990 and 3,308 people are reported to have been killed in the drone strikes in Pakistan since 2004, the vast majority of them during the Obama terms.

In the 12-month period up to 2011, 43 out of 95 drone strikes in the reports (which give an account of the vast majority of US operations in the country) were not aimed at al-Qaeda at all. And 265 out of 482 people killed in those assassinations, were defined internally as “extremists”.

Indeed, only six of the men killed – less than two percent – were senior al-Qaeda leaders.

Some of the groups include the Haqqani network and the Taliban Movement of Pakistan, both militant organizations, but ones the US did not designate as terrorists until 2012 and 2010 respectively. Neither one has ever conducted an attack on US soil.

It also confirms that attacks during the George W. Bush era, were conducted on targets picked by ISI, Pakistan’s security agency, which has no obligations to comply with US legal criteria.

Furthermore, in some cases it is difficult to confirm that the targets were militants at all.
